ART EXPLORATION FOR AGES 8-12
 
Aug8-Aug11 MTWTH 9am-11:30am + lecture/art show Aug12 5-8pm
Cost: $90, supplies included

In this class we will: 1. Discuss the principles and elements of art. 2. Practice drawing from observation. 3. Review basic human proportions. 4. Review basic color schemes. 5. Learn about paint application. 6. Have the opportunity to participate in the guest lecture and art show on August 12th.

Once tuition is paid, your spot will be reserved in the class. Class size is limited to fourteen students. Tuition is refundable through June 10th. After June 10th, tuition will not be refunded.


 
 

FIGURE DRAWING AND PAINTING FOR TEENS AND ADULTS
 
Aug8-Aug11 MTWTH 4pm-9pm + art show Aug12 5-8pm
Cost: $270 not including art supplies

One of art's greatest challenges is figure drawing. For artists who make work depicting people, figure drawing skills are a must. In this class we will work from a model in a leotard and: 1. Practice drawing gestures to quickly capture the essence and movement of the figure. 2. Draw on toned paper with an emphasis on contour, value and shape accuracy, expression of marks, and manipulation of edges. 3. Learn about proportion, bones and muscles. (Homework assignments will be given before class.) 4. Transfer the drawing to a panel or canvas. 5. Make an oil painting. 6. Learn about shift in temperature and transparency. 7. Have the opportunity to participate in the guest lecture and art show on August 12th.

OIL PAINTING--PAINT A SELF PORTRAIT
 
Aug1 M 9am-5pm + lecture/art show Aug12 5-8pm
Cost: $120 not including supplies

This class is for teens and adults who have taken at least one painting class before. We will 1. Work from a mirror. 2. Begin with Acrylic paint 3. Practice painterly edges, accuracy of shape, local color mixing, and temperature shifts. 4. Practice a direct painting method. 5. Complete a self-portrait. 6. Have the opportunity to participate in the guest lecture and art show on August 12th.

PLEIN AIR LANDSCAPE PAINTING
 
Aug2-Aug4 TWTH 5-8pm + lecture/art show Aug12 5-8pm
Cost: $150 not including supplies

In this class we will find a painting site each session and paint the living, breathing landscape. We will: 1. Learn to quickly capture shapes, light and shadow with oil paint. 2. Simplify the landscape into strong designs. 3. Concentrate on painterly edges, the light effect, shape relationships, and rhythm. 4. Have the opportunity to participate in the guest lecture and art show on August 12th.

SCULPTING
 
SAT Aug6 9am-5pm and FRI Aug12 12-5pm + lecture/art show Aug12 5-8pm
Cost: $200 not including supplies

In this class we will work with a model in a leotard to : 1. Sculpt a figure in oil-based clay. 2. Sculpt a relief in water-based clay. 3. Learn about movement and continuity in sculpture. 4. Make a simple mold and pour a plaster cast. 5. Have the opportunity to participate in the guest lecture and art show on August 12th.

PAINTING JESUS
 
Aug2-Aug5 TWTHF 10am-2pm + lecture/art show Aug12 5-8pm
Cost: $200 not including supplies

Depicting Jesus in artwork is a challenge. We will create a "portrait" of Jesus with a classical approach by: 1. Painting a grisaille underpainting from a sculpted model. 2. Painting a color study from a model. 3. Laying color on top of the grisaille. 4. Focusing on temperature and transparency shifts. 5. Focusing on the light effect. 6. Attaining a fluid picture plane. 7. We'll also have the opportunity to participate in the guest lecture and art show on August 12th.

ILLUSTRATING A PICTURE BOOK
 
Aug8-Aug11 MTWTH 1-3pm + lecture/art show Aug12 5-8pm
Cost: $150 not including supplies

In this class we will: 1. Discuss the components of a picturebook. 2. Work on storyboarding a dummy book. 3. Discuss the integration of text and image. 4. Take a storyboard image to full scale sketch. 5. Take a sketch to finished illustration. 6. Capture a digital image. 7. Finish design of a book page. 7. We'll also have the opportunity to participate in the guest lecture and art show on August 12th.
